A Plethora of Emotions
When you have over 10,000 photos to choose from, how do you ever decide on a personal favorite? It is nearly impossible! Something that has always surprised me is the ones that are mine are not the same for others. And that is okay. Because a sunrise, whether witnessed in person or through photos, causes each person to react differently. Perhaps triggering a fond memory or remembrance of a loved one that has passed. Or maybe it brings you peacefulness or rejuvenation.
A Satisfying Sunrise
When I look at and remember shooting the photo above, I always have such a sense of satisfaction. One of my earliest shots, I love its completeness. By that, I mean it contains all of the elements I look for in a sunrise. Lots of color, a hint of the sun, wildlife, and a stunning reflection that draws the eye through the photo. So, how did I capture this personal favorite?
Photography Tip #1
Location, location, location! Anyone can photograph a sunrise from their window or yard, but capturing such a unique shot requires water. And I love photographing over water because of the beautiful reflections it creates. This photo would have been stunning just over land. But including the water completes the shot. So, I recommend finding a favorite destination that allows you to photograph all the elements you desire and return there daily or as frequently as your schedule permits.
Not every visit will yield such perfection, but you can capture many memorable moments at sunrise with focused persistence. In time, you too can have a gallery full of personal favorites.
