Guided by the Photos

As I continue down the path of memories and sharing my favorite, favorites…the struggle is real! So once again I am letting the photos guide me

An Unforgettable Adventure

Nearly three years ago, my husband and I made a road trip across the country to the Northwestern United States and into Canada. Starting in Florida, it required crossing several states. But we loved every minute of it as we were able to discover and explore places we’d never been. Our destinations revolved around visiting as many national parks as possible.

For any of you who have traveled out west, you know wildlife is abundant there. And much of it is vastly different than what we are used to seeing in Florida. As a photographer, I was so excited to see and photograph as much of it as I could. So today I’m sharing my favorite, favorites from an unforgettable adventure.

A Photo’s Story

A Light Lunch

A Light Lunch – Prarie dogs are some of the cutest animals on the planet! And when you visit a park such as Wind Cave National Park in South Dakota, you are likely to travel through their towns. (Yes..they are called prairie dog towns). To alert each other to human presence they make a sweet little bark, which reinforces their namesake. We were nearing the end of a long hike in the park when we passed through this particular town. Being the only two humans there, they were alert, but not scared. And when I saw this little guy enjoying a blade of grass, I knew I had captured the perfect shot.

A Bison Family

As we were traveling back east on our trip, my husband said he needed to visit North Dakota. One of only two states in the U.S. he had not been to. So a brief detour took us in, and we were thrilled to discover how close we were to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Not on our original list to visit, but it should’ve been! We were there around lunchtime during the week so the park was devoid of people, except the occasional passerby. As we were driving along the scenic route a herd of bison suddenly appeared and started to make their way up the mountain. And to our utter delight, this mamma and her calf were part of the herd. They stopped, to look around which allowed me to capture a beautiful moment. And when I saw the white and red flower in the foreground, I knew it would become a favorite, favorite.

Pronghorn Parade

Traveling through states such as Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, and others means hours of open road and not much else! So it was a surprise when we encountered these Pronghorn Sheep walking through a farmer’s field. Of course, we had to stop. And we did so, so did they, which allowed me to capture this fun photo.

A Sky That Goes On Forever

This shot was captured on my iPhone 13 Max Pro. We had left Canada and were heading through Montana. We had the roads to ourselves, so stopping was easy and so worth the effort. I had never really appreciated how everyone talked about the “big sky” in Montana until I captured this shot. Even though the scene is simple, therein lies its beauty and certainly makes it one of my favorite, favorites.
