The One and Only Savannah, Georgia
After a challenging start to the new year, my husband and I decided we needed to get away to recharge our batteries. So we set out to one of our favorite destinations and rediscovered the sights of Savannah.
Something Around Every Corner
This beautiful city has so much to offer: great food, stunning architecture, a rich history, and walkability throughout downtown. There are lovely and historical parks filled with lush gardens throughout the city, where the giant trees and benches invite you to sit and soak in the view.
A few of the sights of Savannah that we love are the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist. We feel a close connection here, as our former pastor and dear friend is now the Bishop of Savannah and resides on the property. So it is always a stop when we are in town. Another is down along the waterfront, where you can watch the huge cargo ships inch their way to the port.
Just walking around town is a treat all on its own. Many residents have filled their courtyards or porches with colorful flowers, and adorable door knobs. The homes are incredible, and the ironwork porches’ intricacy is a work of art.
Fabulous Food
No trip to Savannah would be complete without enjoying some fantastic food, so I must shout out to one of our new favorite restaurants, Common. We had dinner there on our last evening in town, which was delicious. My husband had a perfectly prepared steak and mashed potatoes, and I indulged in some fresh-caught caprese oysters. I can still taste them even now! The service was impeccable, and the manager was attentive and always appeared at our table right on time. Having been a sommelier for over 20 years, he ensured an extensive selection of wines was available. Perfection!
We completed our visit by reuniting with a very dear friend. So, after just a few short days, our batteries were recharged, largely thanks to the time spent enjoying the sights of Savannah. A city that should be on everyone’s bucket list!
