Minimal Colors, Maximum Effect
When a brilliant sunrise is this stunning, only one (or maybe two) colors are needed! I’ve witnessed this only once in my years of photography. And because of its rarity and heart-stopping radiance, it is no question a personal favorite.
What Makes This One Special?
Affectionately known as “Sky on Fire,” this photograph contains all the elements to bring the viewer satisfaction. The entire frame is filled with vibrant colors. The cloud’s trajectory provides leading lines that draw the eye directly over the pavilion, giving it a focal point without distracting from the incredible illusion of the sky and water on fire. This is a true example of a brilliant sunrise.
Even my fellow early risers, walking or running, had to stop and enjoy this incredible masterpiece. And many shared they, too, had never witnessed such a sunrise.
Photography Tip #2
As I shared in my August 9th post, water was essential for capturing this shot. But that is only part of the equation. The clouds are another factor in creating the “sky on fire” effect. They are such a vital element in photographing a sunrise like this one. So when deciding to take photos, look skyward. A combination of clear and partly cloudy skies can yield some incredible pictures and a sunrise as brilliant as this. Their density and position often force the sun to work harder to break through, resulting in a beautiful array of colors and shapes emerging around and through them.
Quote of the Day
“I wanted everybody to see a sunrise and be knocked out by the miracle of it – the world being created every morning.” Mordicai Gerstein (This quote wonderfully encapsulates the awe inspired by a brilliant sunrise.)
