Today we are back inside one of the most beautiful and perhaps the greatest of historical significance churches in Paris. The Saint-Denis Cathedral Basilica is the final resting place to all but one of the Kings of France. Dating back to the first, King Clovis (third photo) who ruled from 465 -511. And some of the more famous, including King Henri II and his wife Catherine de Medici (couple entombed in prayer). And perhaps the most well known and France’s longest reigning, King Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette (first and second photos).
Along with providing visitors such a magnificent glimpse into the country’s history, there was a temporary exhibit called “Crescendo” by artist Stephen Dean. In the last photo, you’ll see a glass ladder that hangs from the ceiling over the altar. When the sun peers through the incredible stained glass windows at reflects on the ladder, those breathtaking images appear on the pillars and walls throughout. It looks as though they have been painted in brilliant color, but it is purely a reflection. We were so incredibly fortunate to see this, as it made this already very special place even more so, and definitely is one of the “Wonders of Paris”.
