Perhaps a lesser known but truly one of the “Wonders of Paris” is touring the Musee’ de la Liberation de Paris. (Museum of the Liberation of Paris). Housed directly above the actual bunker where Resistance fighters helped secure Paris’ freedom from Nazis Germany on August 25, 1944. Only utilized for about one week, it proved to be the most important week of the war for the city of Paris.

The surprisingly large museum is a walk through history, depicting images and stories of the immense struggle and even internal conflict of the occupation of Paris during WWII. But it also pays homage to the famed and everyday heroes, many of whom sacrificed their lives and freedom for their city and country.

And once you complete the above ground tour, you must walk the 100 steps down into the bunker for a incredibly fascinating virtual realty experience through the actual rooms themselves. We were unsure of what to expect during this tour, but once completed it is still an experience we talk about often as a favorite during our trip. It really was amazing and so informative.

Open to the public and free admission, you just have to reserve your time slot to visit the bunker as space is very limited. Click here to learn more.
