The beauty of South Dakota at its best! After an incredible visit to Mount Rushmore and Wind Cave National Park, we were off to what has been described as the state’s most beautiful scenic byway. And Spearfish Canyon did not disappoint. Recent rainfall had turned the grasses and trees their most vibrant shades of green. And coupled with perfect blue skies and rushing waterfalls it truly lived up to the hype.

And we were quite fortunate that adjacent to our hotel, the Spearfish Canyon Lodge, was a hiking trail that ended at the stunning Roughlock Falls. Such an amazing “Northwest Encounter” as we continued west during Road Trip 2023.
