Found in only one location in Florida, meet the wild bison and horses at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park. The park itself is rare, with its western “prairie like” topography, which makes it the perfect home for these most unusual Florida residents.

During our recent visit we also had the opportunity to view a mare with her newborn foal. It was so beautiful to observe them together. And one of the keys is to treat them and their habitat with respect, recognizing they are wild animals and not to approach aggressively or too closely as to startle or agitate them. Doing so provides the observer a wonderful experience in one of Florida’s most unique and amazing parks.
