The indescribable, incredible Antelope Canyon in Page, AZ was a bucket list visit for us during Road Trip 2022, Part 3. When you see photos you can’t believe they are real, but they are! This place literally takes your breath away with its unique, one of a kind beauty.
Located on a Navajo reservation, the only way to visit is by a guided tour. This restriction helps preserve the canyon’s beauty, protecting it from desecration by vandals and overcrowding during peak season. And our guide, J.R. was exceptional. He knew the history well and pointed out all of the highlights and perfect photo opportunities during our visit.
One of the things that makes the canyon so stunning are sunbeams that shine through the overhead caverns at specific hours during the day and the year. Peak season is May-September with the “final sunbeam” illuminating the interior through mid October. They, along with the canyon’s colors and rock formations create the spectacle that you see in the photos above.
If you are traveling to the southwest, I highly recommend a visit especially during the season. It is a destination and adventure you will remember for a lifetime.
