As Road Trip 2022 continued, our next destination took us to the Outer Banks. Home to the Corolla Wild Horses, which are descendants from colonial Spanish Mustangs brought over to America by Spanish explorers over 500 years ago.
We were a bit south of their location at the Crescent Moon Inn in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. A secluded stop right along the inter coastal waterway, this eclectic inn was built by proprietors Greg and Linda and features their personal touches throughout with lots of nooks and crannies just begging to be explored.
A stroll down the short pier leads to a dock overlooking the water, which is the ideal spot to view a North Carolina sunset while listening to the waning sounds of wildlife before they too fall asleep for the night.
Tucked away down a wooded path, my morning walk provided opportunities to see the local wildlife and enjoy a peaceful sojourn through nature. But perhaps the “stars” of the inn are the family of raccoons that will quite likely make an appearance. Always hopeful their sweet faces will lure visitors to drop a crumb or two from any food you might enjoy.
So if you are in search of the unique and secluded, this little inn is just what you’re looking for. With only a short drive to the beach and local eateries such as the very cool Trio or Outer Banks staple, Art’s Place, you can get that feeling of relaxation without isolation!
And so it continues…until our next stop!
