Road trips. A perfect opportunity to take the road(s) less traveled, explore new territory, drive the black ribbon highway and perhaps foster deeper bonds with family or your traveling companions. One of my favorites is the array of conversations and topics that are discussed. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure we “solve all the world’s problems” many times over!!
Many years ago I was anti-road trips. Yep…only wanted to travel by air so I could get to my destination as quickly as possible. And perhaps that was because I had young children (parents you know what I’m talking about) or because I was still working, and wanted to spend as much time at the destination as possible.
But after years of travel both near and far, the road trip has become the preferred mode. As we learn with more years of experience (a.k.a. Getting older), the journey can be just as, if not more, rewarding than the destination.
Unfortunately the cost of fuel this summer may be a road trip deterrent, but even if the destination becomes closer to home, the journey is still worth taking. We have the very good fortune to live in the most incredible country in the world. And seeing as much of its beauty, and experiencing its multitude of adventures is a dream I have for all of us this summer.
But if a trip is not an option this year, perhaps perusing the photos and visiting the web sites I’ll share during our travels, will give you an opportunity to “get away”, even if it’s from the comfort of your own home.
The photos above represent trips taken from 2020 through the beginning of 2022.
And so it begins in earnest…June 1, 2022.
