You’ll Want to Come to a Complete Stop
Next in the Sunrise Intersections series is a photo I call “4-Way Stop”. It is made possible partly because of the calm waters, which allow a mirror image through reflections in the water. The symmetry of the clouds and sun rays pointing directly to the center creates a focal point that draws the eye right where you want it, at the 4-way stop in the middle of the shot. This perfect capture often takes place during the early morning sunrise.
The Keys to the Perfect Shot
This picture also reinforces how shooting over water can transform an average sunrise into something spectacular. If that’s not possible, finding some fantastic cloud formations or other natural elements, such as a perfectly straight horizon, can really elevate your early morning sunrise shots, creating the balance that a viewer craves in a sunrise. Another critical component in capturing this shot was the use of a tripod.
Photography Tip #7
A tripod can be your secret weapon. This is especially true when the scene is very calm. Even the slightest camera shake can create blur. And if a clear, sharp photo is your goal, you don’t want to miss capturing a unique shot like this because your hands are shaking. Believe me, they will! Simply because you get caught up in the moment of witnessing such beauty.
